5.9 Common Rail Injector Nozzle Replacement
« on: September 28, 2008, 02:19:59 am »
This is definitely not a task for the timid or the mildly mechanically inclined.

All in all, this took about 5 1/2 hours to do.

Now, all I can say is DAMN!

When I first started it up, it damn near fogged out the entire yard. It idled for a good minute and half and smoked pretty good, then it settled down.

I only drove a little ways around the block tonight, but it will certainly roll the coal now.

Here's the pics of the install....

I realize this is an old thread, but it's the first I've seen it.

Just a question. Why did you remove the entire fuel rail, instead of just the fuel lines?
It would be less work and save you some time to just removed the lines.
Just my  :cents:

It's actually less work to remove the rail and it causes less damage to the HP fuel line fittings at the rail.

Really, with those lines, if you remove them, you should replace them as they're compression fittings.

Does it hurt anything to use them again? No, but it does increase the chance of a possible leak.

To completely remove the lines from the rail, it's an additional 6 fittings. To remove the rail and lines as a complete assembly, it's only the 3 hold down bolts on the rail and the inlet fitting on the bottom.

6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other. Either way works, I'd just rather remove it as an assembly I guess.

Ah, yes. I remember now that when I do remove all 6 injectors, that is the way that I do it  :whistling:.
Normally when I'm doing injector work I'm not removing all 6, so then it would be more work. Usually it's less than 3 comming out for me. ;D

Excellent write up btw.
