Drive Shaft
« on: April 28, 2017, 11:03:14 pm »
Okay so I have ruined another set of u joints and its getting old really quick Has anyone ever thought of making a new shaft and yokes with
A bigger cross section?

I have met a guy that wants to install a new driveshaft that the yokes will except a bigger Diameter u joint All for $700
I guess a Guy that lives around me has done this and hasn't been back to have his u joints replaced.  I would really like to talk to
that guy personally but I have been looking at all the dodges in my area and haven't found him yet.

So if you can understand what I am saying  the cross sections are larger the rear flange will be new and the front yoke will be new also and the center
support bearing will be different then OEM   my issue is if I break down far from home I am screwed.  But these joints are at the local napa under a
international 4700 tow truck
anyone have any insight to a different drive shaft that they have done that would be helpful
Thanks Tommy3guns

Which joints did you use?

When I replaced mine the parts guy at NAPA had to go thru about 8 before he found two sets that were made in America, everything else was either Mexican or Chinese.

On my '06 the manual trans trucks had much larger u-joints than the auto trucks.

About 7 years ago, I replaced the two piece/carrier bearing with a one piece with Spicer 1480 u-joints.  No problems and still has original u-joints with about 150k miles.  Only 800 bills but well worth it and I can get Spicer 1480s at any auto parts store throughout the country.
