DIY boost gauge install...
« on: January 16, 2010, 03:40:19 am »
Well, I figured since my truck is such a pain in the :censored: that I would post up a little walk through in case anyone wants to do this, as well..

This works for a 4.7L dodge dakota, from the years 2005-2007, with a manual transmission...

Mine didn't have a vacuum hose here, so I had to make it possible to put the hose on the fitting...

Here goes...

First off, open the hood, remove the intake system you have, whether it be factory, or aftermarket, as to how to do it, depends on the intake you have...

Then you'll have something like this...

And like this...

Next, remove the throttle body, there are (3) 5/16 bolts that hold the 05-07 throttle bodies on and two cables on the left side.

Now we're looking at something like this...

Next up, I took a towel, put some water on it, and shoved it into the intake mani port...

This is the fitting we'll be using today...

Like I said, on mine this was closed off, on the automatics I've seen there is a vacuum line from here, so I'm assuming it may be the kickdown line, or something? Anyways...

Next, put the drill into the fitting, and slowly drill through, til you feel it come out the other side...

Here's where it comes out on the inside of the manifold... it's kinda hard to see, sorry, the internal flash on the camera is kinda crappy...

Next hook everything all back up!

Throttle body on, and intake waiting...

Intake on...

How it looks once all hooked up...

Next it's time to install the gauge, pretty self explanitory, different gauges have different styles...

As for mine, I hooked up the vacuum hose, and the constant power wire, the switched power wire, and the ground wire, mounted it into the a pillar gauge pod and did a check to make sure I was in vacuum...

Well look at that! Sure thing. Sitting in vacuum. :)

Now here's where I ran into panic mode...

Next give er some throttle to see if it moves closer to 0...

Well, for me, I went to give it throttle, and the pedal was resting on the floor...

By now, I'm doing this... :banging:

I'm so confused, so I think of what I did...

Well, here... after I fixed it.

I forgot to hook up the cables!

Now, get back into vehicle, and check everything again, this time, I had gas pedal pressure, which is a bonus...

Give er a little hell and...

Looks like another successful modification, brought to you, by FrenchToast.
