uconnect DVD hack
« on: April 30, 2012, 12:43:31 am »
as many of you know I pulled the trigger on a Chrysler T&C last week.

anyway, the factory head unit (730N RHR) will not allow you to play DVD's or change most settings on the navigation while the vehicle is in drive. I have been doing some searching and apparently the only way to disable this feature is buying a module that runs ~$286. I was figuring this was just a software hack, not an actual module which has to be plugged in. Has anyone got some experience with this?

im relatively sure it cant be more complex than a single signal wire that needs to be "relocated" just like the aftermarket dvd units

it aint low till it scars asphalt

If its the factory unit it will be talking directly to the ECU/TCM or whatever they call it over the CAN bus. Its not going to be as simple as a wire on an after market unit.

Actually the blame is one people that wreck while watching a DVD then blame the car manufacturer with a lawsuit (at least in the case of stuff that won't operate when the car is moving).

Drew, as far as I know with the Chrysler features some of the do require hardware in addition to the software update.  Part of the software update is updating the VIN registration in the ECM so that the brainbox and Chrysler know exactly what is installed on the car.  It has to do with future warranty converage and the fact that Chrysler mad ea decision a few years ago that all buttons and wires would be installed on all cars, then just leave out the modules driving everything.  Because of that the programming is all tied to the VIN in the ECM and due to multiple revisions over the years and programming patches they need to make sure the right version gets installed so that your car will work right.
